1. RBI Bulletin: Economy Strong Amid Inflation Dip
The Reserve Bank of India's August bulletin highlights persistent rural demand and easing food prices as the main drivers behind restrained inflation — recorded at an eight-year low of 1.55% in July.
Inflation is projected to stay well below the 4% target, while the Monetary Policy Rate remains steady at 5.50%. The RBI, however, cautioned about rising U.S.–India trade tensions as a potential growth risk.
2. Tamil Nadu to Issue ₹3,000 Crore Bonds
The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to raise ₹3,000 crore through state bonds (2-year, 9-year, and 30-year tenors) via RBI’s E-Kuber platform on 2 September.

3. Rupee Flat Despite Tariff Pressures
The Indian rupee continues to remain stable, trading between ₹87.60 – ₹87.64 per US dollar, despite foreign equity outflows and fresh U.S. tariff pressures.
Experts believe that the RBI may intervene if the rupee weakens beyond ₹87.80.
4. PM Modi to Visit Japan and China for Strategic Summits
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to begin important diplomatic visits:
-
Tokyo (29–30 August): India–Japan Summit
-
Tianjin, China (31 August–1 September): SCO Summit
Key agendas will include economic security, high-tech collaboration, and regional stability.
5. GDP Growth Slows Amid Tariff Impact
India’s GDP growth is estimated to have slowed to 6.7% in Q1 FY2025–26, compared to 7.4% in the previous quarter.
This decline is largely due to weaker urban demand and higher U.S. tariffs (up to 50%).
However, full-year growth is still expected to be around 6.5%, supported by a good monsoon, government expenditure, and policy measures.

9. Devastating Floods in Eastern Pakistan
Severe monsoon-triggered floods in eastern Pakistan’s Punjab displaced nearly 250,000 people and affected over 1.2 million.
